Easter Special 07 - The Emmaus Walk, 7-11.

Three days had passed since THE Event. The Sanhedrin were definitely anxious as they remembered My words regarding ‘Three days later…’. However, My disciples understood not, and some just didn’t believe.

The evening was now drawing near. Two of My disciples were walking towards a village nearby, about 7 miles, or 11 kilometres, away from Jerusalem. Then I drew near beside them and asked, “What kind of conversation is this that you are having with one another as you walk along?” They stopped short, sadness written across their faces.

One of them, Cleopas, answered and said to Me, “You must be the only person in Jerusalem who hasn’t heard about all the things that have happened there the last few days.” And I said to them, “What things?” Now, was that a little cheeky on My part? 😉

So they said to Me, “The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a Prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death, and crucified Him. We had hoped He was the Messiah who had come to rescue Israel. This all happened three days ago. Then early this morning, some women from our group of His followers were at His tomb, and they came back with an amazing report. They said that His body was missing, and they had seen angels who told them Jesus is alive! Peter and John ran out to the tomb to see, and sure enough, His body was gone, just as the women had said.”

Of course I wasn’t there in the tomb! Death had been conquered! Would that they had believed what I had told them since weeks ago.

Then I said to them, “You foolish people! You find it so hard to believe all that the prophets wrote in the Scriptures. Wasn’t it clearly predicted that the Messiah would have to suffer all these things before entering His glory?” After that, I took both Cleopas and Simon through the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining to them from all the Scriptures the things concerning Myself.

By that time, we were approaching the village, Emmaus, where My two disciples were going. As I acted as though I was going on, they urged Me to stay the night with them, since it was getting late. So, I went home with them.

Now it came to pass, when I had reclined at the table with them, I took the bread and blessed it. Having broken the bread, I began to give it to them. At that moment, their eyes were opened and they recognized Me! And then, they saw Me no more…

Up till that hour, almost all My disciples had not believed that I AM the Resurrected one. These two had now believed… 🙂
