The time had come. This was My last night… The Upper Room was now behind us.
We’d arrived at the Mount of Olives. There it was… That familiar place, that familiar garden. I’d often met there with My disciples.
Here we were, at the Garden of Gethsemane. My disciples were with Me. I said to them, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.” I took Peter, James and John with Me.
Tonight, the Shepherd would be struck and the sheep would be scattered.
I was troubled and deeply distressed. I said to Peter, James and John, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch.” Then I went a little farther, and prayed, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”
Would you like to take a guess at what happened next? Someone appeared. Who?
An angel appeared. The angel appeared to Me from heaven, and strengthened Me…
Being in agony, I prayed more earnestly; then My sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
Soon after, I went to My disciples, and found them sleeping from sorrow. I said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Could you not watch one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Again, I went away and prayed, the same prayer as before. After that, I returned to My disciples. I found that they were asleep again, for their eyes were heavy; and they did not know what to answer Me.
I left them, went away again and prayed the third time, saying the same words.
Then I went to My disciples the third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? It is enough! The hour has come; behold, the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us be going. See, My betrayer is at hand.”
My beloved; I endured distress. I endured sorrow. I endured agony. I endured them so that you might have life, and life abundantly. I love you so…
